Obituary: Robert ‘Bob’ Thomas Duff June 17, 1922 – July 5, 2016

ROBERT “BOB” THOMAS DUFF Col. USAF (ret.) June 17, 1922 – July 5, 2016

Our wonderful father and grandfather peacefully passed away on July 5, 2016, at the age of 94 in his home in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

He was born on June 17, 1922, to James and Helen Duff of St. Louis, Missouri. Bob grew up in St. Louis where, at the age of 20, he met a nice, young woman whom he asked out dancing on a riverboat stationed on the Mississippi River. From this day sprung an inspiring love story as the two married on April 15, 1944, and remained together happily ever after until Jackie’s passing in 2012. Bob was also sadly preceded in death by his brother Jerome and his two beautiful grandchildren Elizabeth Ladino and Ryan Duff.

He is survived by his sister Joy Jeannelle and her husband Bill; and his four children: the Reverend Michele (Duff) Rahhal, her husband Bill and their children – Robert Rahhal, Michael Rahhal and his wife KC Perry, Chris Rahhal and his wife Stacy Hill-Rahhal and their children Christian and Aliyah; Melissa (Duff) Zink, her husband Tom and their children – Geoff Shelton and Stacey Shelton-Zink; Robyn (Duff) Ladino, her husband Tony and their children – Marie Ladino and her husband Xavier Cottle, Joseph Ladino and Rebecca Ladino; Dennis Duff, his wife Linda and their children – Lauren (Duff) Dodington, her husband Jim and their daughters Elsa and Maelie Ann and Michael Duff. Bob and his wife worked and raised their family across the United States and Europe.

Bob’s career included 30 years as a nuclear weaponeer and safety officer in the Air Force and 12 years with the U.S. Dept. of Energy. He then worked in classification at Sandia National Laboratory. Once settled in Albuquerque, Bob and Jackie became two of the founding members of the Prince of Peace Parish. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Bob lived as an eternal optimist and a true patriot who always celebrated his Irish heritage. The love he showered upon his family and friends will continue to brighten their lives, and his spirit will live on through them. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be sent to the Albuquerque Rescue Mission (abqrescue.org).

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 6:00 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, rosary will follow at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. Interment will follow at Guaje Pines.
