RICHARD “RICK” JAMES SOFALY May 2, 1943 – Aug. 10, 2015

Richard “Rick” James Sofaly, 72, died on Monday, August 10, 2015 at his home in Killeen, Texas surrounded by his loving family. 

Rick was born May 2, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the only son of Dick and Gloria Sofaly. As a teenager, his family moved to southern California where he attended and graduated from San Diego State College and where he met and married his wife of fifty years, Karla Foight. Together, they had four children whom they raised in Los Alamos, New Mexico. 

Rick enjoyed a successful career in computer technology, working for Los Alamos County as the Director of Management Information Services, for Digital Equipment Corporation, and as a consultant for Los Alamos National Laboratory. 

He was a much loved father and husband who enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, horseback riding, and sailing. He coached Little League baseball and taught Hunter Safety in Los Alamos. He loved shooting sports, competing in IPSC and trap shooting events. 

He is survived by his wife Karla and their four children; daughter, Cheryl Sofaly and her husband Mark Knox of Killeen, TX; son, Richard Sofaly of Post Falls, ID; son, Justin Sofaly and his wife Christy of McCall, ID; daughter, Janice Bramlett and her fiancé, Wally Archuleta of La Puebla, NM; nine grandchildren: Megan, Katie, Kyle, Zachary, Logan, Dillon, Natalie, Allyson, and Valerie; and two great-grandchildren: Rebecca and D.J. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Gloria Sofaly.

A Rosary will be held at 12:00 pm followed by a Requiem Mass at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 15 at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights, Texas. He will be laid to rest at the Live Oak Cemetery in Killeen, TX. Those wishing to sign Rick’s guestbook may do so at
