PATRICK ALAN MINOR July 23, 1953 – Nov. 5, 2014
Patrick Alan Minor died November 5th, 2014 at Gentiva Hospice in Albuquerque, NM. Pat, a Christian, was loved and adored by his family and friends and will be sorely missed.
Pat was born July 23, 1953, at Keesler AFB, near Biloxi, Mississippi, to Robb and Shirlee McDonald Minor. His pre-school years were spent in D’Iberville, Mississippi, and Manhattan, Kansas. In D’Iberville, he enjoyed chasing cows and hiding under the house which was built on concrete blocks – much to his Mother’s consternation. In Manhattan, where his father attended college, he was asked what he was going to take when he went to college and he replied, “My lunch.”
He attended school in Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and Espanola, NM, and Oklahoma Military Academy. Some school subjects gave him trouble. During attempts to learn subtraction, he became disgusted and exclaimed, “What difference does it make? I’m not going to be a subtracter when I grow up!” While in Espanola, he played Little League baseball as a pitcher and was selected for the league all-star team.
Pat married Gail Holton and they had three children – LeAndra, Garrick, and LaOra Belle. Pat and Gail were divorced.
Pat was a pipefitter and retired from the Los Alamos Utilities Department. After his retirement he lived in Los Alamos and, later, Albuquerque.
He was musically inclined and generated a great beat on his drums for the band. He also had many pets, mostly dogs, with which he spent many happy hours.
Pat was preceded in death by his mother, Shirlee, and brother, Dennis Robb; grandparents Jennings and Belle Minor and Earl and Helen McDonald; and uncles, O. H. Minor and Robert McDonald.
He is survived by his father and step-mother, Robb and Dorothy Minor; sister, Diane Minor, who faithfully and lovingly cared for him through his long and often painful illness, and her husband, Will McCaulley; daughter, Lieutenant LeAndra Kissinger, US Navy and her husband, Jason; son, Major Garrick Minor, US Army; daughter, Cosmetologist LaOra Belle Dean and her husband, Shane; uncles, Frank Minor and Ronald McDonald; former wife, Gail Minor-Holton; and six wonderful grandchildren.
Pat’s ashes are interred in the Holton, Kansas, cemetery with his brother, Dennis Robb.
A memorial service was held December 5th at the Bryce Avenue Presbyterian Church, 333 Bryce Avenue, in White Rock.
