Obituary: Nancy Ann Moyer Bell Aug. 28, 1946 – Sept. 6, 2020

NANCY ANN MOYER BELL Aug. 28, 1946 – Sept. 6, 2020

Nancy Ann Moyer Bell, born Aug. 28, 1946, passed away after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness, Parkinson’s disease, Sept. 6, 2020. She had just turned 74.

Nancy is preceded in death by her father, Howard Moyer and mother Gladys. Sisters, Mildred Moyer, Ginny and husband Bill Turner. Brother, Allan. Neice Susan Turner Agins, and grand nephew Sam Harrow.

Nancy is survived by son Christopher Bell of Santa Fe; Niece Jo and husband Guy Rossi of Ojo Caliente; niece Linda Horpedahl of Nambe. She has numerous nieces and nephews from the west coast to the east coast. Nancy is also survived by all her wonderful and loving friends who remember her for her infectious laugh.

Nancy was the mother of Chris, a special needs child, who was popular for “leading the band” at Los Alamos football games. When Chris went to live in a group home, Nancy was a tireless advocate for him and other’s with special needs. Chris participated in Special Olympics; he and Nancy traveled to games everywhere.

Nancy attended high school in Los Alamos, NM. While in high school she enjoyed working as a waitress at the Fuller Lodge. She had fond memories of her high school years. Nancy moved from Los Alamos, New Mexico to New York State, and then to Hollywood, Fla., where she worked as a secretary for the police force. When she came back to Los Alamos in 1986 she worked as an administrative assistant for PTLA (Protective Force), where she retired after 14 years.

She was a favorite of many of the officers, who relished coming in to say hello to her anytime they had business in the administrative offices.

Nancy was a passionate animal advocate. During her evening volunteer shifts at the Los Alamos Animal shelter, she was not content to simply walk dogs, clean kennels, and fill water bowl; she would make sure each dog was tucked in with a blanket and a toy. She insisted on giving each contraband treats she had stuffed in her pockets. As old age slowed Nancy down, one of the things she missed most was walking pooches at East Park.

Nancy spent the last three years at Aspen Ridge Lodge in Los Alamos and then the last year at Brookdale Santa Fe, so she could be closer to her son, Chris.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Los Alamos Animal Shelter. Due to COVID-19, a private funeral service will be announced at a later date.
