MOLLIE GARCIA RODRIGUEZ July 27, 1924 – Sept. 8, 2020

On September 8, 2020, Mollie Garcia Rodriguez peacefully passed away in Las Vegas, NV where she spent the last 3 years of her life near her oldest daughter, Linda Rodriguez Opperman. She was a lifelong resident of Los Alamos, NM where she lived for 70 years. She was always full of life and she loved her friends and family.

Mollie was born in Española, NM on July 27, 1924, and she was chosen to be her high school class valedictorian in 1942. She had a full four-year scholarship to NMSU but due to the war, she opted to marry her high school sweetheart, Emilio Rodriguez. They lived happily in Los Alamos, NM where they raised their family.

Mollie was employed by the University of California and was an important asset to the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory where she worked for 50 years. She was a lifelong scholar who loved people and loved to help others in her community.

Mollie was proud to have worked alongside world-renowned scientists in the Los Alamos Laboratory. She participated in the Manhattan Project during the 1940s, which produced the first nuclear weapons. She was proud to have worked alongside both Robert Oppenheimer and Edward Teller.

Mollie is preceded in death by her mother, Eloisa Garcia, and her husband, Emilio Rodriguez. She leaves behind her children, Linda Rodriguez Opperman, Kathleen Rodriguez Everett, and Edward Rodriguez. Mollie has many grandchildren who will miss her greatly. Lisa Wooldridge, Lori Adams, Lauren Everett, Jacob Rodriguez, and Jesse Rodriguez. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind a heritage of great-grandchildren, Brent Wooldridge, Alyssa Wooldridge, Jaron Adams, Seth Adams, Kaydence Rodriguez, and Elijah Rodriguez.

Mollie will be laid to rest in the Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos, NM where a memorial will be held in her honor by family and close friends. She will be missed greatly and will always be remembered by her zest for life, love for God, and her love for family and country.
