Marjorie Flo Butler, 91, of Fort Collins, Colorado, died June 19, 2022.

She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and graduated from high school in Tulsa, earning a Bachelor’s Degrees in English and Education in Oklahoma, and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Denver.

She married Harold S. Butler in 1954 in Tulsa, and they celebrated 56 years of marriage before his death in 2010.

Flo and Hal lived in Palo Alto, California, while he was a graduate student at Stanford University and where their daughter, Nanette, was born. Then the family moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1963, where Hal was employed at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Flo was a science/engineering librarian and editor. She loved classical music and was a constant concert goer. She was also a dedicated traveler, visiting 25 countries and most of the 50 states. She enjoyed literature, history, and the study of French culture. She loved the out-of-doors, especially the mountains, where she spent much of her adult years skiing, snowshoeing, and walking among the wildflowers.

Upon their retirement Hal and Flo moved to Fort Collins in 1993. She was a member of the Front Range Forum and OSHER (Learning in Retirement), the American Library Association, and the Fort Collins Symphony Guild, and enjoyed being a CSU Rams women’s sports supporter.

Flo is survived by her daughter Nanette Butler Shannon of Denver, her granddaughter Caitlin Rose Shannon and great granddaughter Lina Engebretson of Chicago, and sister and brother-in-law Mary Kay and Marvin Layman of Tulsa. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Lodge at MacKenzie Place on Friday August 12, 2022, at noon, in Fort Collins.
