LUIS G. SANCHEZ March 6, 2016

Luis G. Sanchez, 98, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 following a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Leroy Sanchez and Luis H. Sanchez; parents, Abel and Francesquita Sanchez; sister, Orlecia Archuleta and Filomena Rivera; brother, Delfino Sanchez and grandson, Daniel Sanchez.

Luis grew up on a farm on Ojo Caliente, where he met his beautiful wife Rachel in Los Alamos during WWII. Together they raised seven children. He worked as a machinist and retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory. Luis was very kind and gentle soul, he had a large and generous heart and was always giving to other. He leaves loving memories to be cherished and celebrated by all who knew and loved him. Luis touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Luis loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Sanchez is survived by his wife of 74 years, Rachel Sanchez; children, Anthony Sanchez and wife Loretta of Santa Fe, John J. Sanchez of Albuquerque, Josie Mohr and husband Michael of Albuquerque, Catherine Blanford and husband Dennis of Albuquerque and Therese Baca and companion George Duran of Abiquiu; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Sanchez of Española; grandchildren, Sarah Sanchez, Bill and Jacque Meadows, Travis and Michael Sanchez, Anthony and Benjamin Baca, Andrea Montoya and Andres Herrera; great-grandchildren, Clarissa Baca and Daniel Ortiz; brother, Max Sanchez and wife Virginia, sister, Margaret Quintano and husband Luther; special recognition to friend and caretaker, George Duran and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Public visitation will begin on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Española. Burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe with the following serving as pallbearers, Anthony and Benjamin Baca, Anthony Sanchez, George Duran, Felipe Rivera and Dennis Blanford.
