Obituary: Linda Ann Breshears March 29, 1940 – Oct 13, 2020

LINDA ANN BRESHEARS March 29, 1940 – Oct. 13, 2020

Linda Ann Breshears, an adored wife of 59 years, a beloved mother of 5, a grandmother to 14, an avid volunteer and loving teacher, died on Oct 13, 2020 in Tucson, AZ. She was 80.

She was born March 29, 1940, in Spokane, Washington. Never one to shy from adventure, in her early years she enjoyed skiing and summited several northwest peaks including Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams. Linda’s brother once said she got her intelligence and culinary skills from her mother and her effervescent personality and determination from her father.

She attended Oregon State University in Corvallis, became a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, and was active in the American Association of University Women. She earned a degree in Elementary Education.

She married the love of her life, Dale Breshears on December 18, 1960 in Portland, OR. She met Dale on a blind date arranged by Linda’s college roommate. When Dale called to invite her out, Linda was working at the little league concession stand. Her mother accepted the date on her behalf and summoned her daughter home for the date immediately.

Linda was the proud mother of 5 children – Dave, John, Andrew, Heather and Rob – with an age range spanning 16 years. She used to brag about the year she had one child in college, one in high school, a junior high student, an elementary schooler and another one still at home.

She and Dale moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, in 1966 where she became a beloved member of the community for over 50 years. Her spirit of adventure undaunted in parenthood, she engineered and orchestrated family adventures, camping trips and sabbaticals to both hemispheres of the globe.

For those of you who knew Linda, you’ll remember that she was a dedicated volunteer and donated her time in various capacities including the Thrift Shop at the United Church of Los Alamos, where she was a longtime member. She had fresh baked goods waiting for her children every day after school. And you will certainly remember her infectious laugh, warmth, and dazzling smile that enveloped everyone around her in her joy in every aspect of living. Linda had “an exceptional gift of making people feel important and loved,” said Keith Lewis, Pastor at the United Church.

She is survived by her husband Dale; sons David, John, Andrew and Rob and daughter Heather; daughters-in-law Mary Lu, Cris, Sara and Hannah; son-in-law Kevin and grandchildren: Elliot, Jeff, Madeleine, Ben, Ryan, Nathan, Kate, Courtney, Max, Cedar, Ezra, Imogene, Lucy and Ori; brothers Fred and Dave and sisters-in-law Arlene and Jill.

Her family requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to The United Church of Los Alamos in memory of Linda Breshears.

A virtual memorial service will be held on Friday, October 16 at 1pm. Check The United Church of Los Alamos website for access to view the service.
