Obituary: Krista Erin Wilhelm Sept. 3, 1985 – April 9, 2023

KRISTA ERIN WILHELM Sept. 3, 1985 – April 9, 2023

Krista Erin Wilhelm, 37, passed into her loving Father’s arms Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. She was born in Albuquerque Sept. 3, 1985 and moved to Los Alamos a few days later.

She is survived by her mother, Susan Duran; her father and stepmother, Richard and Maura Wilhelm, Aurora, CO; her grandfather, Leo Duran; her children, Sydnee, Jonus, and Trevor; stepsisters Jessica Smith, Portland, OR, and Annalissa Smith, Parker, CO; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and her special pup, Anubus.

Krista was a free spirit and never met a stranger. She had a playful, mischievous nature and was fun to be around. She was compassionate and known for her beautiful smile and infectious laughter.

Krista loved music (she would have made a great disc jockey), art, writing, and dancing. Krista played the bass guitar and percussion, and her elementary band teacher was amazed at her sense of rhythm. She was encouraged to submit a book of poems in high school for publication, and her paintings brought many wonderful emotions and vibrancy.

Krista fought and prevailed (!) over addiction and bravely faced her declining health and associated pain with grace. Through it all, she never lost her sense of humor.

Krista cared deeply for her family and friends. We know her greatest regret is leaving her children who are the lights of her life.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Genevieve Duran, and her paternal grandparents, Richard and Doris Wilhelm.

Krista’s passing has left a huge void in our lives; she was a beautiful soul who left us too soon. She was her daddy’s Tootsie Roll and her mama’s Sweet Pea. To say we’ll miss her immensely is an understatement. Rest in God’s loving arms, beautiful girl. We love you so very much.

There will be a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.

Please donate to the Lupus Foundation of America, Hoy Recovery Program, or a charity of your choice.

Pictures, stories and condolences are welcome and encouraged for her parents and children to cherish at www.riverafamilyfuneralhome.com. The Rivera Family is deeply saddened at Krista’s departure.
