JOHN MARK GOFORTH Sept. 13, 1935 – June 6, 2022

John Mark Goforth, born Sept. 13, 1935, in Hominy, Osage County, Oklahoma, passed away at the age of 86 June 6, 2022 at home in Turlock, Stanislaus County, California, with his wife of 30 years, Janet Bailey Goforth, at his side.

They were married May 9, 1992, in Livermore, Alameda County, California. It was a second marriage for each of them. Anyone who knew Janet and John knew that this was a real love affair with deep affection and partnership between them.

John had many skills involving household integrity such as fixing, repairing, constructing, finishing, gardening, landscaping, etc. that he brought to their home in Turlock. He also excelled in the culinary arts when he was done working outside and went into the kitchen. He enjoyed baseball and was a season ticket holder for the Modesto Nuts, a minor league affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. They enjoyed their times at the ballpark and even hosted dinners at their home for some of the players.

He worked as a contractor at, and later as an employee of Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. He was working as a fire and safety inspector at Los Alamos when he met Janet. According to Janet, many of the single women noticed him as he went about his work, but something special sparked between them, and they married in 1992. Each had been divorced since the mid 1970’s and knew that the real love of their lives was waiting for them. John retired in 2000. The Goforths moved to California in 2001.

John was preceded in death by the 1977 death of his daughter, Karla Denice Goforth. He is survived by his son, Philip Max Goforth; wife Janet, and his four stepchildren Marty Stunkel, Jim Stunkel, Randy Stunkel, and Jennifer Farian. The entire extended family includes their spouses, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
