JOANN MARIE JAIN – July 21, 2014
JoAnn Marie Jain, 70, of Los Alamos, NM died peacefully at home on July 21, 2014, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
She was born to William and Josephine Dorson in Nashua, NH. JoAnn received her RN degree at Catherine Laboure’ School of Nursing in Boston, MA. She met and married Mahavir Jain in Beltsville, MD in 1966, while working as a nurse in Washington, D.C.
Before settling in Los Alamos, NM, in 1974, JoAnn and Mahavir lived in Winnipeg, Canada and College Station, Texas. Regardless of where they were, JoAnn always followed her calling as a nurse. JoAnn continued her work as an operating room nurse at Los Alamos Medical Center from June 1974 to August 1980.
Before her struggle with multiple sclerosis, JoAnn was a master gardener and enjoyed hiking in the mountains around Los Alamos. She remained an avid reader throughout her life and fostered a thirst for knowledge. JoAnn was an active member of The United Church of Los Alamos.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, William and Josephine Dorson, and her brother, William Dorson. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Mahavir Jain, as well as by her son, Raj Jain (wife: Tina Giovanielli), and two grandchildren, Derek and Alexis.
A memorial service honoring JoAnn’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at The United Church of Los Alamos.
