JERRY (GERALD THOMAS) MORTON Aug. 5, 2022
Jerry (Gerald Thomas) Morton, a free riding spirit went home to ride free Aug. 5, 2022.
A man of mystique and intrigue that will be missed. A man with a mind that was only capable of thinking outside of the box. A man that was an entrepreneur and always reaching for the next best thing. A man that “wouldn’t ask nobody for nothing if he couldn’t get it on his own”.
Jerry loved a good classic rock song and a.m. talk radio or a good chuckwagon band. If you were special to him, he probably had a nickname for you.
He had a passion for nature and rafting the river was a great outlet. He was a Grand Canyon river guide for many years and led a multitude of tours down many wild rivers with his then wife. He also led the first ever exploratory rafting trip down the Niagara river.
He had a love of the San Juan mountains and couldn’t pass up a chance to gold pan in a small mountain creek or grab a funnel cake in Silverton, Colorado. A most recent quote from him stated, “A bad day in Silverton is better than the best day in Aztec ”
The road was his home and loved to cruise. From his motorcycle rides, to trucking in his peterbuilt, to his many Chevy pickup trucks across the years.
His pride and joy was his 1986 Suzuki Cavalcade 1400cc 112hp and his much loved CMA affiliation and buddies. He made one fine road boss. He definitely found joy and Jesus there.
Always ready for an adventure as long as he had coffee in his hand and a full thermos for back up.
Always looking out for a dead skunk in the middle of the road or someone standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona.
You could usually find him in a pocket T-shirt and a good pair of Levi’s jeans and boots.
Jerry continued to seek Jesus throughout his life to be sure that the devil wouldn’t get his soul.
He always tried to be prepped and ready, thinking ahead for anything from a camping trip to an end of the world apocalypse. An over thinker to the core. So much so that he may have been his own worst enemy. He was proud of his girls and their families.
An interesting soul to say the least and there will never be another like him.
Take it easy dad Jerry. Until we meet again, enjoy your slow ride.
