Obituary: James (Jim) L. Volz May 20, 1926 – Aug. 7, 2022

JAMES (JIM) L. VOLZ May 20, 1926 – Aug. 7, 2022

Jim passed away peacefully on August 7, 2022, at the age of 96 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He was born May 20, 1926 to Leonadis and Arlene (Peele) Volz in Dayton, Ohio.
Jim graduated from Parker Vocational High School, in Dayton, Ohio, in 1944. Shortly after graduation, he was hired by the National Cash Register Company, where in 1952, he became a journeyman tool designer. 
Jim married the love of his life, Beatrice Louise VanOrder on Feb. 26, 1952, in Dayton. Their first home in Dayton was designed and built by Jim.
While in Dayton, Jim became a member of the Dayton Metropolitan Chapter of the SPEBSQSA, now known as the Dayton Barbershop Harmony Chorus. They performed in many public concerts in the area.  He had a lifetime love of barbershop music.
In 1964, Jim accepted a position as a design checker at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the group N-3. He later moved to GMX-3, and finished his career as a design drafting supervisor in WX-12 and was also a member of the national standards committee, ASME Y14.5. He retired in 1990.
While living in Los Alamos, Jim and Bea’s passion became sailing at Heron Lake. They won several sailing trophies, and were members of the New Mexico sailing club for many years. In March, 1980, they joined the Balboa sailing club in California on an eight day cruise that finished with a race, which they won.  In 1992, they moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ, where they joined the local sailing club and Alpenlite RV’ing Club.
Jim and Bea celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Feb. 26, 2022. Bea passed away shortly after on April 18, 2022. Their marriage was filled with love and respect, and an ever-lasting commitment that has inspired us all.  
Jim is survived by his three sons, David (Velda), St. James City, Florida, Roger (Peggy), Los Alamos, NM, Scott (Jane), Howard, Colorado;  Grandchildren, Amy Volz, Steph Volz (David Jordon) and Kim Romero (Daniel); granddaughter-in-law, Joanna Volz; sister-in-law,  Bertie VanOrder;  Great grandchildren, Lilah and Paislee Spears, Cheyenne and Aly Volz, and Malea Romero.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Bea; grandson, Michael; brother, Donald Volz;  sister-in-law, Peg Volz;  brother-in-law, Gilbert VanOrder.
