JAMES A. BARAN Sept. 24, 1938 – Dec. 29, 2020

James A. Baran, 82, a long time Los Alamos resident, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in Los Alamos.

He was born September 24, 1938 in Parma, Ohio, the son of Andrew and Josephine Baran.

Jim graduated from Case Institute of Technology with a degree in Physics, then later received his Master’s of Science Degree in 1963 from Kansas State University, where he also earned his Doctorate Degree

Jim began his 30 year career at Los Alamos National Lab in 1968 and at his retirement received a certificate of appreciation.

In his early years he was heavily involved with Car Racing Rallying, and in 1970 was #1 in the U.S. He and Helen Zenor were married in 1971 in Los Alamos. For many years he was very active and a Past President of the Los Alamos Kiwanis Club. He also served as a District Lt. Governor for the Southwest District of Kiwanis, enjoying all the friendships he and Helen established through this organization. He and Helen have traveled extensively worldwide, visiting many wonderful places that they enjoyed.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Helen Baran; his daughter, Melinda Baran in England; a sister, Dolores  Zisko in Ohio; a brother-in-law Jack McGinty in Canada, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Due to current health restrictions burial services will be private for family. A memorial service will be scheduled later as we are allowed to have larger gatherings.
