GREGORY JOSEPH NUNZ 1934 – May 10, 2022

Gregory Joseph Nunz, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and teacher, passed away peacefully May 10, 2022.

He was born in Batavia, New York in 1934 to Sylvester Nunz, and Elizabeth Loselle-Nunz.

He graduated from Cooper Union, as a Chemical Engineer, and was a leading Hydrazine Engine specialist at Rocketdyne, Jet Propulsion Laboratories, and Bell Aerospace, Inc. He went on to work and retire from the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the University of New Mexico.

Greg authored two books, “Mathematics and Electronics,” published in 1966, and later authored “Electronics in Our World,” published in 1972. Greg was a true renaissance man, a tenured professor, who was a world traveler, an avid reader and voracious researcher in theology, history, and philosophy.

Greg devoted so much of himself to helping the Sioux Indians, that the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux – Lake Traverse tribe, formally adopted him and gave him his name “Laughing Wolf”. He continued his teaching, long after retirement, giving French classes to his peers in the community.

Greg was predeceased by his wife, Georgia Nunz, brother Robert Nunz, and son-in-law Eugene Kutyreff.

He is survived by Mary Nunz, his sister-in-law. He is survived by his children: daughter Rebecca Bjorling Alexander and son-in-law Richard Alexander; daughter DeeDee Bonner and son-in-law Charles Bonner; son James Nunz and daughter-in-law Kate Nunz; and daughter Marta Kutyreff.

He was “Papa” to his grandchildren: Greg Nunz, Jason Alexander, Chris Kutyreff, Cherisse Kutyreff, Elisa Bonner and husband Stephen McNulty, Ashley Bonner-Romero and husband Rick Romero, Justin Nunz Jeremy Nunz and wife Cassandra Arellano Nunz, and Jennifer Nunz. He also is survived by his great grandchildren: Kaycee Nunz, Kaiden Nunz, Madalyn Putrow Nunz, Chance Nunz, Micah-Gene Nunz; and Jake Alexander.
