Obituary: Eloise ‘Ellie’ Margiotta Sept. 26, 1938 – Nov. 30, 2023

ELOISE ‘ELLIE’ MARGIOTTA Sept. 26, 1938 – Nov. 30, 2023

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Eloise (Ellie) Margiotta, 85, a beloved mother, cherished grandmother and devoted friend. Ellie departed this world on November 30, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.

Ellie was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 26, 1938, to Carmine and Elizabeth Conforte and lived there until she was married in 1960 and moved to Long Island, NY with her husband Paul. In 1978 Ellie, Paul and their 3 children moved to New Mexico where she remained.

A beacon of enormous strength, Ellie faced life’s challenges with grace, determination and most importantly, humor. She always said that we could go through life’s challenges laughing or crying and whenever possible, we should choose laughing. Ellie led a life defined by compassion, love, and unwavering resilience. Ellie’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched and the lessons of intellectual curiosity and perseverance she instilled in those around her.

Ellie had a rich professional career and a passion for education and lifelong learning that she shared with her family. She always impressed upon her children, grandchildren and nieces to get an education, make their own money and never be dependent on anyone. She was very intelligent and always had a passion for reading. She would read anything, but primarily loved history, science and mystery novels and read during every stolen moment for most of her life.

As a doting grandmother, Ellie reveled in the joy of her grandchildren, creating lasting memories through shared laughter, love, and wisdom. Her home was a haven of comfort and acceptance, where all felt welcomed and embraced. With her fierce intellect and boundless empathy, Ellie served as a sounding board and mentor for each of her grandchildren throughout their lives. Her insights and endless love will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

Ellie was preceded in death by her parents, Carmine and Elizabeth Conforte, her husband Paul Margiotta, her brother Roy Conforte, and her beautiful granddaughter and best friend, Alicia Hicks.

She is survived by her three children, Lori (Thomas), Michael, and John; her six grandchildren, Christopher, Cheriece (John), Vincent (Chelsey), Aries, Joseph, and Taylor; her three great-grandchildren, Sean, Jayden, and Cole; her sister-in-law Theresa and nieces Danielle (Ed) and Lisa.

Ellie leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to family, close friendships, warmth of heart and soul, compassion and generosity. She will be remembered and dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.

At Ellie’s request, a traditional funeral service will not be held, but rather a party will be arranged at a later date when her family and close friends can come together to celebrate her life in a manner consistent with the vibrant, dynamic and joyful woman she was.
