EDWARD CHARLES SAYRE April 17, 2018

Edward Charles Sayre (Ed) died April 17, 2018 at Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He was 94 and had been in declining health for several years. He had been a resident of Los Alamos since April 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hoy Sayre, who lives in Rio Rancho; they were married June 9, 1951. He is also survived by his son, Steven Sayre of Washington, D.C. and his daughter Sabrina Sayre of San Francisco, in addition to two grandchildren.

Ed had two careers. He served in the military, primarily as a USAF officer, for a little over twenty years. He then served as a professional librarian for over twenty years. He was director of the Denver metropolitan library system, and director of the San Diego/Imperial Counties library system before coming to Los Alamos. He came to Los Alamos as director of the Los Alamos County Library in April 1979 and served in that position until he was appointed acting County Administrator in December 1988. He retired from Los Alamos municipal government in September 1989.

Ed was a member of the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, he and his family have asked that friends and other well-wishers make contributions to the Church. There will be no service.
