DONNA MAE FISCHER WILSON Aug.15, 1934 – Aug. 7, 2015
Donna Mae Fischer Wilson died Aug. 7, 2015, just a week shy of her 81st birthday, in Cañon City, Colorado, from complications following a pelvic fracture.
On Aug.15, 1934, her grandmother, Anna Kronschnabel Fischer, delivered Donna into the world at West Spring Street in Appleton, Wisconsin. She was the sixth of nine children born to Frank and Anne Fischer.
Donna attended elementary school at St. Edwards’s at Mackville and St. Joseph’s in Appleton, Wisconsin, and graduated from Appleton High School West in 1952. Donna enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1955. She graduated from the Appleton School of Business in 1960.
In 1960 Donna visited her sister in Los Alamos, New Mexico. She fell in love with the area and the mountains and decided to stay. There she met her future husband and on June 23, 1962, she married Donald L. Wilson in Los Alamos. Don and Donna lived and raised their family there until June of 1991, when they retired to Don’s hometown of Cañon City, Colorado.
Donna enjoyed many hobbies and activities, passing many of these interests on to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid rock hound who dragged her children on all sorts of field trips to collect specimens, and enjoyed crafts of all sorts, gardening, garage sales, and perhaps most of all, being a grandmother.
Donna spent her last days surrounded by those who loved her. She left the following note to be included in her obituary. “I feel that I have had a good life. I loved my family, friends, and the Rocky Mountains. I’ll meet you all later!”
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; sister, Virginia Arens; brothers, Lawrence, Francis, and Cyril Fischer; and godchild, Rose Mary Arens.
She is survived by son Dan Wilson of Littleton, Colorado, and daughter Susan (David) Ramsay of Los Alamos, New Mexico; grandchildren Kyle, Ryan, and Devon Wilson, Nicki (Eric) Blodgett and Kelsey (Cody) Blount; great-grandchildren Isabelle and Oliver Blodgett; sisters Mary Ann Scherer, Patricia Fahrbach, and Verna Rohe; brother Jerry Fischer; and sister-in-law Joan Fischer. She is also survived by many (as you can imagine) nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Cañon City. A Catholic Mass is scheduled in her honor at St. Michael Catholic Church in Cañon City on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Lakeside Cemetery will immediately follow. A luncheon gathering will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Cañon City following the interment.
