Obituary: Bernadette Verna June 17, 1944 – April 28, 2016

BERNADETTE VERNA June 17, 1944 – April 28, 2016

Bernadette Verna passed away on April 28th after a hard fought battle with breast cancer.

She was born Bernadette Lasorsa on June 17th of 1944 in Philadelphia, PA. She attended Catholic school back in the day when nuns could hit you and you didn’t bother to tell your parents because then you’d get hit twice that day.

She married Lou Verna and they had three children, Louis, Anthony and Bernadette. They lived most of their life in Florida, with Lou working at Walt Disney World and while they were never rich, they led the charmed life being allowed to visit Disney as often as they wanted for free.

She moved to Los Alamos from Maitland, Florida in 1995, worked for the Y after school program, the Blooming Shop, CB Fox and finally Los Alamos Family Council.

She loved the Native American culture and was able to see students from Los Alamos Middle School, Native Hawks dance back in October.

She is survived by son Nick and wife Mary of Winter Springs, Florida, son Tony from Los Alamos and daughter Bernadette Lauritzen, husband Chad and grandsons Chandler, Spencer and Aaron.

One of her favorite sayings was, “God won’t take me and the Devil doesn’t want me.”

A memorial service will be held May 18th at 4pm, at the United Church of Los Alamos (2525 Canyon Road).

Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Champions of Youth Ambitions for the Native Hawks program at 77 Isleta Drive in Los Alamos.
