USDA News:ALBUQUERQUE ― USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner was in Española Sept. 19 to honor the Northern New Mexico Regional Art Center (NNMRAC) and the Regional Development Corporation (RDC) for their successful application for funds to expand business opportunities in northern New Mexico.
“Today’s announcement is an example of the Obama Administration’s efforts to create opportunities for people in the rural communities like northern New Mexico,” Brunner said. “The funding will enhance the education of small businesses which will in turn help rural residents create better opportunities and be more profitable.”
Both entities received grant funding through the Rural Business Development Grant (RBDG) program which is designed to provide education or technical assistance to benefit existing or prospective rural businesses.
The Northern New Mexico Regional Arts Center received a $12,500 RBDG to provide local artists with additional education to better manage their businesses. The course is in conjunction with the Northern New Mexico College to provide a class room setting to develop and improve marketing, management and entrepreneurial skills for artists.
The Regional Development Corporation is receiving a $50,000 RBDG to offer northern New Mexico business owners a 12 month program to expand their business knowledge through interactive training, group and one on one instruction. Participants will be grouped with other business owners to work together as they take the training.
The program will also provide a mentor to help the business during the training. Also, other subject matter experts will be matched with the businesses to provide them with additional business education.
