CB FOX Opens Temporary Mattress Store Downtown

Dave Fox of CB FOX welcomes customers into his new mattress store Saturday. The store has opened temporarily in the space recently vacated by the flower shop adjacent to the CB FOX Department store on Central Avenue. The mattress store is designed to accommodate customers who have trouble using the stairs in the department store as well as allow more space for the large variety of mattress available at CB FOX. Appreciative Inquiry: A Positive Method to Change an Organization

People always lament that change is very difficult, especially in an organization. 

They usually don’t mean that they themselves would resist all changes, as long as they are reasonable. 

So, what’s reasonable? That, right there, begins the messy process of change. 

In a crude manner, I break organizational change into three categories:

(1) Change for the sake of making changes. It strikes me that a lot of new managers when taking on their new title feel the need to demonstrate that they are doing something different.

Daughter of Los Alamos Activist Arrested at LANL

Barbara Grothus is arrested this morning along with five other protesters after blocking traffic near the entrance to Los Alamos National Laboratory. Grothus is the daughter of longtime Los Alamos activist Ed Grothus who died from cancer. Following this morning's arrest, several more protesters entered the street near the same location and blocked traffic for about five minutes. No arrests were made during that action. The protesters have now left LANL property and are marching across the Omega Bridge heading toward the Los Alamos County Detention Facility.

LANL Temporarily Open to Badge Holders Only

Effective 6 a.m. today, Los Alamos National Laboratory will be open to LANL and Department of Energy badge holders only.

Badges will be physically checked at the Laboratory's vehicle access points. Those without badges will be directed around the Laboratory via N.M. 4.

"This is a precautionary measure for the safety and security of our employees, our facilities and the general public," said Mike Lansing, LANL's associate director for safeguards and security.

Curiosity Lands on Mars!

NASA's Curiosity rover has landed on Mars. Curiosity is a car-size, one-ton rover that touched down on Mars at 11:31 a.m. Monday. The landing marks the beginning of a two-year prime mission to investigate.

Jordan Ahlers Chairs United Way Youth Team Campaign

Jordan Ahlers has been named to chair this year's United Way Youth Team Campaign. She is a senior at Los Alamos High School.

The Youth Team held its kick off meeting Wednesday in the fourth floor conference room at Los Alamos National Bank, which is a major sponsor of the United Way of Northern New Mexico organization.

"These youth are so great and show so much leadership ... they ran the whole meeting," United Way Executive Director Kristy Ortega said.

BREAKING NEWS: LAFD Battalion Chief Placed on Administrative Leave

Battalion Chief Kelly Serna

Los Alamos Fire Department Battalion Chief Kelly Sterna has been placed on administrative leave following a report this morning that he had been arrested in Albuquerque Friday night for suspected drunk driving.

Sterna was not on duty at the time, according to the report.

“The Los Alamos Fire Department upholds the highest standards and code of conduct for its officers," Los Alamos Fire Chief Troy Hughes said this afternoon. "We understand that the public places their trust in us to behave in a professional, law-abiding manner, both on and off duty.
