When the state announced Friday the lifting of several major State COVID-19 restrictions, masks came off at The Family YMCA to reveal many smiling faces.
Smiles got bigger with the governor’s order this week allowing the usage of public showers including those at the Y.
Y CEO Chris Daniels said the organization has updated its COVID policy to reflect state standards. He said that while hand-sanitizer will remain readily available and high frequency cleaning, the Y is not requiring the wearing of masks for those fully vaccinated.
“We are using the honor system,” Daniels said, “and ask people who are not vaccinated to continue to wear masks for their own sake.”
Additionally, the Y is no longer requiring temperature checks, said Daniels, but he asked that if individuals have a temperature or are sick that they not come to work out.
“We are continuing the increased frequency of high touch-points, and have increased shower-cleaning frequency,” Daniels said, “and we continue to ask members to wipe equipment with the provided disinfectant before and after usage.”
“Our members have been wonderfully cooperative through all of this, but with these changes there has been a genuine upswing in moral among members and staff,” Daniels said.
Daniels said the lifting of restrictions coincides with a pay-the-day promotion the Y is having during the month of June. There is no join fee, but the first month’s dues will equal the day they sign up for membership. He said if someone joins on the 5th, their first month’s dues are $5.
“The weather outside is great, but if rain or heat find you needing shelter, we welcome you to join us at the Y,” he said.
About The Y:
The Family YMCA was created by volunteers in 1955 who recognized the need for a place where families could recreate together. It is an independent chapter of the YMCA of the USA but participates in Nation-wide membership that allows members to workout at any YMCA. The Family YMCA is a charitable nonprofit whose mission is to build community strength by focusing on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. One critical mission area is to ensure access to everyone to be in Y program through financial assistance. The organizational is led by a volunteer board of directors.
