NNSA News:

The Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Field Office (DOE/NNSA) has issued a Floodplain Assessment for the Decommissioning and Demolition Project at Technical Area-41 (Floodplain Assessment) for a 15-day public review and comment period commencing with publication of this notice.

DOE/NNSA is proposing to do road maintenance and rehabilitation to facilitate the demolition and decommissioning (D&D) of structures in Los Alamos Canyon.

The purpose of the proposed D&D of the structures is to eliminate the risk to the public, reduce LANL’s overall square footage, and to reduce cost for surveillance and maintenance.

The road activities and structures are within the Los Alamos Canyon 100-year floodplain.

After the close of the public comment period and prior to issuing a Floodplain Statement of Findings DOE/NNSA will reevaluate the alternatives to the proposed action in a floodplain, identify mitigation measures that would avoid or minimize impacts to the floodplain and take into account all substantive comments received during the public comment period.

The Floodplain Assessment can be accessed online at https://energy.gov/node/4477152 or https://www.energy.gov/nepa/downloads/floodplain-assessment-decommissioning-and-demolition-project-technical-area-41-los.
