NNSA Announces Exercise Of Terms For Sandia National Laboratories Management And Operating Contract

NNSA News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) announced today it has exercised Option Terms 1 through 5 of National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia’s (NTESS) management and operating contract for Sandia National Laboratories.

NTESS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Honeywell International.

The exercise of Option Terms 1 through 5 extends the performance of NTESS from May 1, 2022 through April 30, 2027. Exercising Option Terms 1 through 5 is the most advantageous method of fulfilling the mission needs of NNSA considering current price, past performance, and most importantly, the immediate need for continuity of performance during Fiscal Years 2022 through 2027.

Sandia is responsible for non-nuclear engineering development of all U.S. nuclear weapons and for systems integration of the nuclear weapons with their delivery vehicles. Sandia’s national security responsibilities include design, qualification, certification, and assessment of the nonnuclear subsystems and system qualification of nuclear weapons.

Sandia also leads the Nuclear Security Enterprise in developing new technologies in the safety, security, reliability and use control of nuclear weapons, and works closely with other NSE laboratories, sites, and plants on issues associated with production and dismantlement of nuclear weapons, surveillance and support of weapons in the stockpile.

Other responsibilities include advancing technologies in nuclear intelligence, nonproliferation, and treaty verification. Sandia has locations in Albuquerque; Livermore, Calif.; Kauai, Hawaii and Tonopah, Nev.

Sandia also conducts research in the areas of materials sciences, chemistry, and geosciences; develops new technologies for timely, cost-effective, and comprehensive solutions for local, regional, and global environmental problems, and environmental resource problems; and maintains state of the art technologies and capabilities to support high performance computing, modeling, and simulation; communications; cyber-security; and information management.
