NNMC Announces Launch Of Strategic Planning Initiative: ‘Soaring To New Heights Strategic Plan 2028’

NNMC President Hector Balderas

NNMC News:

ESPAÑOLA — President Hector Balderas announced today that Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) has launched a strategic planning initiative: “Soaring to New Heights Strategic Plan 2028.”

With financial support from Los Alamos National Laboratory, Northern has secured a partnership with Dini Spheris, a national expert in strategic management, that will facilitate broad faculty, staff and community input through committee work, detailed surveys, and personal interviews.

The purpose of the strategic planning initiative is to develop a five-year strategic plan that will elevate Northern’s student experience, build on Northern’s strengths, and address its most pressing challenges. As a college that serves amazing rural communities, with a student population that is 82 percent Hispanic and Native American, this process will provide an opportunity to think boldly and address visionary goals, as well as tactical needs.

“Northern is a tremendous institution that has the power to transform the lives of our students, future generations and our community at large,” Balderas said. “I am grateful to our school community and for the generosity of LANL in supporting the development of a plan that is clear, comprehensive, and inclusive of all voices; and I am excited about this process creating a path to unlock our immense potential.”

As part of the strategic planning process, Northern has created a strategic planning committee with diverse representatives from key stakeholder groups and a logistical subcommittee that will drive the work of the strategic plan development. Over the coming weeks, Northern will engage students, faculty, board members, donors and community stakeholders to build a strong, visionary strategic plan. This will include gathering input through surveys and community conversations directed at understanding “where we are today, our strengths, our opportunities, our challenges and our future”.

Based on the information gathered from the survey and conversations, the committee will review and synthesize findings and clarify their core purpose and mission, vision, core values and behaviors and strategic issues. Once these have been confirmed, the committee will develop strategic goals and action items needed to implement the plan.

Northern New Mexico College looks forward to working with the community to establish a comprehensive, shared vision for the future of Northern.
