NMSP Investigate Shooting Involving Santa Fe County Deputy

SANTA FE — At around 11:30 p.m., June 9, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was asked to investigate a police shooting involving the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at a residence at 17715C U.S. Highway 84/285 West Frontage Road north of Santa Fe.

State Police agents learned that the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office had been dispatched to the residence for a domestic dispute. Deputies were told that a male individual was irate with a family member and armed with two knives inside the residence.

When deputies arrived, they contacted the male individual inside the residence who was still armed with the knives. At some point during the encounter, a Santa Fe County deputy fired his duty weapon at the male, striking him.

After the incident, deputies provided medical aid to the individual until an ambulance arrived. The male was transported to an area hospital where he is in ICU. 

The details that led up to this shooting are under investigation by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau. The deputies involved were uninjured. The name of the deputy who fired his weapon will not be released until interviews have taken place. More details will be released as they become available.
