SANTA FE – When the New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehab (NMDVR) hosts its Rapid Hire event Wednesday, April 27, it will be the first one by a state agency to be 100 percent virtual.

Job applicants from throughout New Mexico—and the country—can attend on their cell phone, tablet or computer from the comfort of their own home, or from anywhere else they choose.

“We are trying to reach a wider potential audience of qualified candidates,” said Tina Tawater, NMDVR Director of Human Resources and Risk Management. “Not everyone has the ability to travel to Santa Fe or Albuquerque. Especially in some of the smaller cities, this is really going to open those markets to different candidates.”

NMDVR will be looking to fill 15-20 jobs at its offices around the state, including vocational rehabilitation counselors, positions in finance and information technology, and an executive assistant. Job candidates should visit dvr.cynaptx.com/external/careerfair/260 ahead of time to upload their resume, references, and transcript (depending on the job) and schedule an interview time.

The all-day event will use a software platform provided by Cynaptx/Empyra, where applicants will enter a virtual lobby then meet with their recruiter in private “interview rooms.”

“We’re thinking outside of the box, to see if the virtual platform helps recruit and reach our target audience,” Tawater said, noting that the virtual event is likely to save resources related to travel expenses for both applicants and recruiters.

And, although the agency has its lowest vacancy rates in years, there are always jobs needing to be filled.

“We still have clients who need to be seen,” Tawater said. “Filling those positions will take some of the burden off current employees and helps us to become fully able to provide those services to New Mexicans.”
