SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is hosting a cannabis Traffic Safety Summit 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 20 at the NMDOT District Three auditorium at 7500 Pan American Fwy. NE in Albuquerque.

The purpose of the summit is to gather key stakeholders, policy makers, law enforcement agencies, public health experts and cannabis industry representatives to discuss and identify effective strategies for promoting traffic safety now that recreational cannabis is legal in New Mexico.

The summit is designed to increase awareness of the potential risks associated with driving under the influence of cannabis, explore evidence-based approaches for preventing impaired driving, and promote collaboration among stakeholders to develop and implement effective solutions while prioritizing public safety.

“The reality is, some people will drive high,” Transportation Secretary Ricky Serna said. “We need to be prepared. The summit pulls together experts to figure out the best way to deal with the potential traffic safety issues associated with cannabis use.”

The summit will kick off with opening statements from Secretary Serna, followed by a packed agenda available for viewing through this QR code:
