NMDOH On Vaccination Update, J&J Fetal Tissue Issue

NMDOH News:

The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) announced this morning that at this stage, nearly 25 percent of New Mexicans (16+) have received one or more shots, with nearly 14 percent fully vaccinated.

J&J and Vaccine Invitations

Thus far, New Mexico media have not focused heavily on purported distinctions between the vaccines, nor have members of the public.

Beginning in the next several days, New Mexicans will receive appointment invitations that specify the type of vaccine they are scheduled to receive.

  • If they choose not to confirm their invitation for any reason, they will be placed back in the pool of eligible users, and they will receive another invitation when vaccine is available.
  • If they attempt to confirm their invitation but the event has filled, they will be placed at the front of the line and receive another invitation as soon as possible.

Fetal Tissue

There have been stories in the national press about some religious authorities encouraging their congregations to choose Pfizer or Moderna over J&J. To be clear: despite some unfortunate reporting, there is no fetal tissue in the J&J vaccine.
