New Mexico Bank & Trust (NMB&T) purchased Community Bank in downtown Los Alamos in August 2015 and has become immersed in the local community. This year, NMB&T is sponsoring the children’s helmet giveaway program at the Los Alamos Heart Council’s annual Heath Fair.

NMB&T Banking Center Manager Lesley Harelson spoke about the bank’s involvement in this year’s Health Fair during an interview on the “Voice of Los Alamos” radio show airing at noon Friday on 101.5 FM.

“We are very fortunate that Phil Gursky (Los Alamos Heart Council president) came to us and asked us to be a part of the Health Fair,” she said. “Since we are new to the community, as New Mexico Bank & Trust, we are excited to get out and participate in these types of events.”

NMB&T also will host a booth 8 a.m. to noon at Saturday’s Heath Fair and Harelson invites the community to stop by and visit.

“This year we are highlighting our health savings accounts, which are a tax advantaged investment,” she said.

Gursky said NMB&T also is helping the Heart Council with kids’ safety and healthcare programs throughout the school year, adding that the Heart Council looks forward to a long relationship with the bank.

“We are just thrilled to have them as sponsors,” he said.

NMB&T’s specialty is commercial banking with a strong commitment to consumer banking, which positions them to serve all their customers’ financial needs.

“The Health Fair is absolutely the right kind of partnership that our bank wants to have … it’s not just about what’s good for the bank but what’s good for the community as well that’s important,” Harelson said.

With assets of approximately $1.3 billion, the bank also serves customers in Espanola, Albuquerque, Clovis, Los Lunas, Portales, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe and Tierra Amarilla. The bank now operates 17 banking centers and two mortgage origination offices, all in New Mexico.

NMB&T at 1475 Central Ave., in Los Alamos is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
