NMAA Selects Its December ‘Compete With Class’ Honoree For True Act Of Sportsmanship On The Field

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) is proud to announce that Rio Rancho football player Ikaika Waters has been recognized as the Compete with Class award recipient for the month of December.

A true act of sportsmanship was displayed by Waters, following his team’s state championship win in December. A video was posted on the NMAA Facebook page, showing Waters helping his opponents up off the ground and congratulating them on a great season, while his teammates celebrated in the middle of the field. The video was liked on Facebook by more than 1,000 people and shared almost 200 times. The video can be viewed here.

Sportsmanship is defined by the NMAA as the act of treating others in a respectful manner, taking personal accountability for ones actions, and responding with integrity while engaged in competition.

The NMAA would like to thank and recognize Ikaika Waters for setting a great example for the state of New Mexico. His act of sportsmanship exemplifies the true ideals of the Compete with Class Sportsmanship Initiative – respect, integrity, and responsibility.
