NM Gas Company Expands Energy Efficiency Rebates Initiatives Help Customers Save Energy And Money

NMGC News:

ALBUQUERQUE — Increased customer rebates for natural gas appliances, free energy-saving services and expanded offerings for businesses are significant elements of newly approved energy efficiency initiatives that provide opportunity for New Mexico Gas Company customers to reduce their energy use and save money.

A new three-year Energy Efficiency program was approved July 2 by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.

“We’re pleased more of our customers will be able to access an expanded suite of energy efficiency rebates and services,” NMGC President Ryan Shell said. “Helping customers use less gas results in real savings on their monthly bills.”

NMGC’s energy efficiency offerings include:

  • Increased rebates, up to $500, for residential customers who install eligible water heaters and up to $625 for eligible furnaces or boilers. A list of rebates can be found at www.nmgco.com/energy_efficiency.
  • Free direct-installed energy-saving upgrades for customers meeting certain eligibility requirements.
  • Commercial rebates that help businesses pay for new high-efficiency natural gas equipment.
  • New rebates for agricultural customers, including dairy farms, greenhouses and crop operations.
  • Free energy education kits to provide students and seniors with information and tools to reduce energy use and bills.
  • Free expert assessments, training and education, and custom financial incentives that pay large commercial customers to save energy.

New Mexico Gas Company is also introducing new mobile-friendly rebate applications with automated information about rebate status. About one third of NMGC’s energy efficiency incentives support income-qualified customers.

Customers pay a small monthly fee to support the availability of energy efficiency programs. As a result of the new program plan that was approved by the NMPRC, starting on July 28 the average monthly charge will be about $2.50, although the actual amount depends on how much gas a customer uses. NMGC encourages all customers to consider participating in the Company’s energy efficiency program.
