THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR SOUTHERN LOS ALAMOS COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO AND EAST CENTRAL SANDOVAL COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO

UNTIL 1:45 AM MDT. BOTH LOCALIZED AND DISTANT HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CREATE SUDDEN AND DANGEROUS FLOWS IN ARROYOS AND OVER LOW WATER CROSSINGS. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLASH FLOODS.

AT 1036 PM MDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED VERY HEAVY RAIN FROM A THUNDERSTORM 11 MILES NORTHWEST OF COCHITI LAKE…OR ABOUT 16 MILES SOUTHWEST OF LOS ALAMOS. THE STORMS PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAINFALL ARE MOVING EAST NEAR 15 MPH.

THIS HEAVY RAINFALL IS FALLING ON TOP OF HEAVY RAINFALL THAT IMPACTED THE AREA EARLIER TODAY…EXACERBATING THE FLASH FLOOD THREAT.

THIS WILL IMPACT THE LAS CONCHAS BURN SCAR INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO BANDELIER NATIONAL MONUMENT…FRIJOLES CANYON…COCHITI CANYON…PERALTA CANYON … N.M. 4 FROM N.M. 501 JUNCTION TO LAS CONCHAS CAMPGROUND AND DOME WILDERNESS.
