New Mexico State Police Officer Hit Head-On By Wrong-Way Driver In Albuquerque Causing Fatal Crash

RIO RANCHO – At about 4 p.m. Oct. 22, a New Mexico State Police sergeant was traveling north on Unser near Mariposa in Albuquerque, when for reasons still under investigation, a southbound green SUV occupied by two males crossed the center line and drove head-on into the State Police sergeant’s SUV patrol unit.

The State Police sergeant was transported to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The driver of green SUV was airlifted to an area hospital. His injuries and condition are not known. The passenger in the green SUV died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

This crash is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police Uniform Bureau and the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit. It is in preliminary stages with limited information available at this time.  As details become available, they will be provided.
