New Mexico State Police Lateral Hiring Plan

NMSP News:

The New Mexico State Police is introducing a lateral State Police academy for qualified, certified police officers who are interested in joining New Mexico’s premier law enforcement agency.

The lateral State Police academy will commence June 5, and cover seven weeks of training followed by up to nine weeks of on the job training with a field training officer after graduation.

Interested applicants must have a minimum of three years’ law enforcement experience to apply. If currently separated from law enforcement, this separation must not have exceeded one year in length. Active duty military police applicants must have successfully completed a basic military police course and completed a four year enlistment as a military police officer.

All applicants will undergo physical fitness testing, a written test, and must complete the standard hiring process. Starting pay for a New Mexico State Police lateral applicant is based on the number of years of prior law enforcement experience and could go up to $24.19/hour.

Those interested in applying should submit an application online. For any questions regarding the lateral hiring process, contact a State Police recruiter at  nmsp.recruiting@state.nm.us or by calling 800.521.9911 (option 7).
