For the fourth year, there will be a “Public Voting” sponsored by ESPN 101.7 THE TEAM during the entire month of September.
Here is an opportunity to create excitement for your candidate. People can vote twice – once at www.nmshof.com and on the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame Facebook page, which will have a photo of your candidate. Each “like” counts as a vote.

Unfortunately, we will only induct 7-9 individuals this year. Up until three years ago, the NMSHOF by-laws only allowed us to induct a maximum of 4 individuals. We made changes to the by-laws and inducted the largest class ever with 8 sports greats in “Class of 2015” and 7 inductees in the “Class of 2014” and “Class of 2016”.
From 1973-2004, we were the Albuquerque Sports Hall of Fame, then from 2005-2011 we expanded to the Albuquerque/New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame.
In 2012, we finally made it official, the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame. From 2005-2013, we inducted up to two individuals from Albuquerque and two from outside of Albuquerque. Thus, there are many of these candidates that are very deserving to be in the Hall of Fame. We are working hard to make sure that each of the candidates over the next few years will be in our Hall of Fame. Anyone can nominate a candidate for the Hall of Fame for the Class of 2017.
Please check the Hall of Candidate page first to see if they have been already nominated as a candidate. Once nominated, the candidate will always be a candidate until inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The candidate with the most votes will automatically be included in the Final Pool.
Our Hall of Fame Nomination Committee has been working since May to review all information submitted plus gathering information from the internet for the final pool of candidates to be submitted to the Board by Oct. 15. The candidates in the final pool will still have to be voted in by the Board for induction in late November.
The formal announcement of the inductees will be Dec. 16.
