SANTA FE –  Recently elected Rep. Derrick Lente (D-Sandia Pueblo) started the 53rd Legislature with appointments to the House State Government, Indian and Veterans Affairs Committee and the House Business and Industry Committee. Lente will focus on key issues relating to economic growth in the tribal and rural communities in his district and throughout the state.

“This legislative session, I will concentrate on being a voice for all people in my district. My district is home to several of this State’s oldest communities, and I will articulate to my colleagues in the House that the Towns, Pueblos and Nations in district 65 are an important piece of New Mexico and cannot be forgotten.  I will work to improve Tribal/State government relations and fight for the protection of funding for infrastructure that are important in my District,” Lente said. “Related to infrastructure, Water and the Tribal Infrastructure Fund will be imperative to update water infrastructure, improve roads, and ensure the communities in my District have the basic necessities for economic development and raise their families.”

The House State Government, Indian and Veterans Affairs Committee focuses on legislation that affects state agencies and institutions, New Mexico tribal governments and communities, and bills related to veterans services. The House Business and Industry Committee hears bills that relate to small business, corporations, and manufacturing.
