New Mexico MVD Will Begin Issuing REAL ID Compliant Driver’s Licenses Nov. 14

SANTA FE  MVD will begin issuing REAL ID compliant driver’s licenses beginning Nov. 14. HB 99 – which was signed earlier this year – ensures that New Mexicans have a secure ID, so that citizens will not have to buy a passport to board a domestic flight.
 
Limited permits will be available for those who are unable to prove their legal status. To get the permit, they must prove residency and identity, and they must subject themselves to fingerprinting and a background check.
 
Here’s what you need to know:
 
You do not need to get the new license or ID until your current one expires. In the meantime, you can still board domestic flights or enter certain federal facilities. MVD customers should anticipate higher wait times in the weeks following rollout.
