ALBUQUERQUE – For the seventh year in a row, Walmart, Bimbo Bakeries USA and Tyson Foods have joined forces to help end hunger across the United States.
The three companies donated 37,000 pounds of food – equating to over 25,000 meals – to Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico and the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico through a partnership with Feeding America. Millions of Americans are facing lost or reduced food stamp benefits this year, and Feeding America food banks – like Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico and the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico – are struggling to keep up with demand.
Representatives from each of the organizations visited Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico today to volunteer, deliver the donation, and tour the facility. As part of this partnership, Walmart, Bimbo Bakeries USA and Tyson Foods donated 5,000 pounds of bread and 32,000 pounds of protein that will be given to individuals and families over the coming weeks.
“We are so thankful to our corporate partners for this generous donation,” said Dana Yost President and CEO of Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico. “The end of pandemic-era food stamp benefits, increased food prices, and higher costs for basic living expenses has caused extra difficulties for families, many of whom are turning to charitable hunger food programs to help cover their family’s meal gap.”
“Donations like this help us keep up with the increased demand to ensure that people have access to food,” said Dianna Sprague, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico. “Thanks to the generosity of Walmart, Bimbo Bakeries USA and Tyson Foods, this donation comes at an important time as need tends to spike during the holiday season.”
Through its partnerships and individual donations, Feeding America – the largest domestic hunger relief organization in the United States – provides food to millions of Americans through a network of 200-member food banks, including Roadrunner Food Bank, and 60,000 partner agencies nationwide.
