WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.), Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) have announced $7 million in federal funding from the Infrastructure Law that is heading to the Albuquerque International Sunport.

This funding will be used to rehabilitate seven existing passenger boarding bridges that have reached the end of their useful lives.

“The Infrastructure Law continues to invest in airports across the state. This federal funding supports much-needed renovations, upgrades, and more. I’m proud to welcome another block of federal dollars for the Albuquerque Sunport and will continue advocating for more funding to bring every airport across New Mexico up-to-speed,” Heinrich said.

“As the largest airport in New Mexico, the Albuquerque International Sunport is a critical transportation hub for New Mexicans and visitors from around the world. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is continuing to deliver for New Mexico, and this investment will help modernize the Sunport and keep passengers safe,” Luján said.

“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is hard at work in New Mexico building needed improvements all around our beautiful state and in my district,” Leger Fernández said. “Safe, modern airports and terminals benefit everyone and make travel to and from the Land of Enchantment easier. I will continue to direct and invest every available dime from Washington into our communities.”

“Albuquerque’s Sunport is the definition of critical infrastructure and I’m proud that Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to deliver for New Mexico,” Stansbury said. “This funding will help support our iconic airport to continue serving as the gateway to our state for generations to come.”

“Just this month, a new flight between Las Cruces and Albuquerque was added making it easier for New Mexicans to travel between the two cities multiples times a week,” Vasquez said. “These federal dollars will support the largest airport in our state and further connect our communities.”

New Mexico Congressional Democrats championed the Infrastructure Law, which created the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Terminal Program. This program invests in projects related to runways, taxiways, terminals, roadways, and airport transit.
