New Mexico Consortium Launches Volunteer Program

NMC News:

Volunteer recruitment open houses and information sessions are scheduled for later this month

The New Mexico Consortium (NMC) invites community members who are interested in volunteering to attend one of the upcoming open houses and information sessions.

Dates are scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2-2:30 p.m., and Tuesday, April 23, 5:30-6:00 p.m., at the NMC offices at Los Alamos’s Research Park, 4200 West Jemez Road, suite 301.

The NMC engages volunteers and interns in its research programs in positions ranging from administration to technicians to researchers.

Volunteers can help with development and outreach. NMC Docents act as ambassadors, providing tours and information and sharing our research with the public.

“We have a continuing interest in strengthening our educational programs and finding new ways to bring students into the NMC, and bring NMC research into classrooms,” Executive Director Katharine Chartrand stated. “By engaging members of the community in our outreach and education efforts, we can expand our reach.”

Volunteers are currently needed in the following categories:

  • Research and Research Support
  • Development and Outreach
  • Education

More detailed job descriptions, as well as a volunteer application, can be found on the NMC website at http://www.newmexicoconsortium.org/about/jobs#volunteer.

Bring your questions, ideas and enthusiasm to one of the information sessions, where you’ll learn more about the organization and how you can be a member of the team.

The New Mexico Consortium is a non-profit corporation formed by the three New Mexico research universities to advance scientific research and education.

The NMC pursues joint research initiatives with Los Alamos National Laboratory in Advanced Computing, Plant Biology, Biomedical Engineering and Modeling and Analysis.

The NMC executes innovative models for operating collaborative research across our partner institutions; the ability to assemble and integrate inter-related but highly specialized research capabilities distinguishes the NMC partnership.
