New Mexico Congressional Delegation Hosts Virtual Military Service Academy Nominations Event

Congressional Delegation News:

ALBUQUERQUE — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján, U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández and Yvette Herrell, and the Office of the First Congressional District brought together representatives from U.S. Military Service Academies Sept. 9 for a virtual Q&A session.

The New Mexico delegation is accepting online applications for nominations to enter an academy in Fall 2022. The conversation was an opportunity for high school students and recent graduates to ask questions about the nomination process and attending U.S. Military Service Academies.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to 4 of 5 U.S. service academies:

  • U.S. Military Academy (USMA) West Point, N.Y.;
  • U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, Md.;
  • U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, Colo.; and
  • U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, N.Y.

Each member of Congress is allotted a limited number of nominations to each academy.

The deadline to apply for a nomination for each of the Congressional offices is Oct. 8. Visit
