New Mexico Community Foundations Hope To Make History

CFCNM News:

SANTA FE – The Community Foundation Coalition of New Mexico is organizing Give Grande NM, a day of giving dedicated to supporting local causes. Because Give Grande NM is one of many giving days being held across the country, it could become one of the largest online fundraising events in history.

Give Grande NM is one of many giving events happening May 6 as part of the national Give Local America event. Donors will be able to donate directly to nonprofits working in their communities by visiting www.givegrandenm.org. Visitors to the site will also be able to search for nonprofits by name, city, geographic area and cause, and see in real time what is raised across the state and for each nonprofit. The deadline for nonprofits to sign up to participate is April 6.

Randy Royster, executive director of the Albuquerque Community Foundation, said “Together we will send a message to the people of New Mexico. Giving is good! Working together will make our state a better place.”

The Community Foundation Coalition is partnering with 345 nonprofits across the state to meet needs and connect people in the community with the causes they care about. The Coalition comprises the Albuquerque, Taos, Santa Fe and New Mexico Community Foundations, as well as the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico.

“Give Grande New Mexico is an opportunity to highlight the culture of giving that has been a part of our state’s identity for hundreds of years. It’s a chance to show that everyone can be a philanthropist and that if we all pitch in together we can make a huge impact. Nonprofits are crucial to the health and well-being of our population and a critical part of our economy. Give Grande will generate even greater support for their important work,” said Brian T. Byrnes, president and CEO of the Santa Fe Community Foundation. “Every dollar will go further if you give on May 6.”

Members of the Coalition are encouraging everyone in the community to be a philanthropist.

“A lot of people think you have to be rich to give back, but even the smallest donation can make a big difference to nonprofits,” said Denise Gonzales, Give Grande NM coordinator. “Give Grande NM is designed to make it easy for donors to connect with nonprofits via a secure and simple website.”
