New Mexico Athletic Directors Association Announces 2015 Male And Female Scholar Athlete Award Winners

The New Mexico Athletic Directors Association, interscholastic athletic directors in the state of New Mexico, has announced the 2015 NMADA Male and Female Scholar Athlete Award Winners.

2015 NMADA Female Scholar Athlete: Lauren Martinez, Eldorado High School, nominated by Mike Huston, Eldorado High School Athletic Director.  Lauren has earned 8 varsity letters, 4 each in swimming and diving, and track and field.  She is a 4 time medalist (including one state title) as a diver and helped her team to 3 state team titles in swimming and diving.  Where Lauren really excels is in pole vaulting where she will be seeking her fourth individual state championship this spring.  Not just a one event specialist, she was the high point individual in the class 5A meet in 2014 and helped the Eagles to a state team title as well.  Lauren is an exceptional student with a 4.293 GPA, and her transcript includes multiple honors and AP courses.  Lauren has also been involved in student government as a member of the student senate and as a class/student body officer.  She will be attending the University of California – Berkley where she will compete in track and field.  Her major will be pre-med and her career goal is to be a physician (OB/GYN).

2015 NMADA Male Scholar Athlete: Justin Rucker, Texico High School, nominated by Todd Estes, Texico High School Athletic Director.  Justin earned 11 varsity letters, 3 in basketball, 4 each in football and track.  He earned first time all-district on offense and defense in football, and was selected as a North/South All Star in basketball.  He is an individual state champion (400m) in track and helped his team to a state title in 2013.  Justin is ranked 2nd in his graduating class, has a 4.278 GPA and has taken a number of AP and dual credit (CC) courses.  He also participates in FCA, his church youth group, an elementary volunteer program, and has helped his National Honor Society chapter advertise, collect and distribute canned foods to needy families in the Texico community.   Justin is the president of the Texico HS FFA, and is a four time state champion and national place-winner in FFA competition.   Justin plans to enroll at Oklahoma State University, compete in track for the Cowboys, and major in Pre-Vet Animal Science.

The NMADA Scholar Athlete Awards include a $1500.00 scholarship.  Nominations are accepted from all current NMADA members and all nominees receive NMADA certificates of award.
