New Mexico Announces 9-Month Increase In Food Benefits … SNAP Program Recipients Receive 15 Percent Boost

SANTA FE – New Mexicans enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive a 15 percent increase to their monthly food benefits for January through September 2021, announced the New Mexico Human Services Department.

In addition, all eligible households will receive the maximum monthly benefit amount retroactively by March 23, 2021 for the months of January, February and March of 2021 to bring them current for the maximum allotment.

“The pandemic has caused immeasurable economic hardships for so many New Mexico families,” Deputy Secretary Angela Medrano said. “This additional assistance will help put food on the table and bring some measure of relief to many New Mexico families as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times.”

The amount of SNAP benefits a household receives each month depends on the number of people in the household and the amount of their net income.

The new maximum benefit levels are noted below:

The Human Services Department provides services and benefits to more than 1 million New Mexicans through several programs including: the Medicaid Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Child Support Program, and several Behavioral Health Services.
