New Mexico Activities Association Board Meeting Summary

The New Mexico Activities Association’s (NMAA) Board of Directors met in regular session Wednesday, Feb. 17 via Zoom.

Executive Director Sally Marquez gave her Director’s Report, which included information pertaining to the NMAA’s current financial position and the NMAA Foundation’s scholarship program.

Commissioner of Officials Dana Pappas presented the Activities Report, which included information on the many activity events that have taken place virtually throughout the year and upcoming state events/conferences that also will be held in a virtual format.

Pappas presented the New Mexico Officials Association Report, which included information on statewide officials’ meetings held virtually throughout the year, the work of several newly created NMOA committees, and officials’ numbers for the upcoming sports seasons.

Marquez presented several discussion items, which included two COVID-related items – an update on the 2020-2021 school year and student eligibility – and one item pertaining to classification and alignment for the 2022-2024 block.

The Board of Directors took action on the following items:

  • Voted in favor of a proposal regarding the addition of stipulations to the eligibility exception that was given to students graduating in December of 2020.
  • Voted in favor of a proposal regarding student eligibility and transfers due to COVID-19.
  • Voted in favor of a proposal to update Football practice regulations for the 2021 Spring Semester Season.

The next regular NMAA Board of Directors’ meeting is scheduled for June 2.
