The Los Alamos Cooperative Market is excited to host a Farmer’s Cooperative Market, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, starting May 16.
The Farmer’s Cooperative Market presents an opportunity to purchase local food directly from local farmers. This market is comprised of members of the Agricultural Producer’s Cooperative of New Mexico, which is independent of the Los Alamos Co+op Market.
Starting May 16, the Farmer’s Cooperative Market will bring food from four farms, Camino de Paz Montessori Farm School, Monte Vista, Tesuque Pueblo and Shepherd’s Lamb to the Los Alamos Co+op Market’s lawn each Saturday.
The Agricultural Producer’s Cooperative of New Mexico is working with the Los Alamos Co+op Market to make items from these farmers available in the store on a daily basis.
Producer co-ops are owned by the farmers and democratically controlled to serve the members (farmers) through cooperative marketing. Therefore, each individual farmer has more time to devote to production.
Los Alamos Cooperative Market exists in part to ensure local producers have opportunities to sell their products. Hosting the Farmer’s Cooperative Market and working with farmers to make local products accessible helps grow the local food economy.
