National Nuclear Security Administration Notice Of Proposed Floodplain And Wetland Actions At LANL

NNSA News:
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Los Alamos Field Office is proposing activities within the 100-year floodplain in Delta Prime (DP) Canyon and within a wetland in Mortandad Canyon in Technical Areas-(TA) 21 and TA-03 respectively, at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
In accordance with 10 Code of Federal Regulations 1022 Compliance with Floodplain and Wetland Environmental Review Requirements, NNSA has prepared a joint floodplain and wetland assessment for the proposed actions. The floodplain assessment analyzes the installation of engineered erosion controls to slow water flow and encourage sediment accumulation in a reach of DP Canyon. The wetlands assessment analyzes the actions necessary to correct the existing stormwater controls that are beginning to fail resulting in head-cutting in the wetland.
The Floodplain and Wetland Assessment for the Mortandad Wetland Enhancement and the DP Dissipater Projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory may be viewed in the Electronic Public Reading Room or in hard copy at the LANL Public Reading Room, located at 94 Cities of Gold Road in Pojoaque.
NNSA will make the floodplain and wetland assessment available for review and comment for 15 days commencing with the publication of the assessment.
