National Homeownership Month Celebrated In June

USDA News:

ALBUQUERQUE  USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner announces that the 18th National Homeownership Month celebration begins today in New Mexico.

The celebration will begin with an award ceremony in Albuquerque to honor the late Albert “Al” Heller with the housing HERO award.

The “HERO” award is given to someone in the housing industry in New Mexico who has been exemplary in their work to provide housing opportunities to the people of New Mexico. The HERO Award will be given posthumously to his widow Kathy Heller and his son David. Heller was an employee of USDA Rural Development and he specialized in working with low income families to help them qualify for home loans and rehabilitation financing.

Heller passed away early this year after a long battle with cancer that was attributed to Agent Orange, which he came in contact with during his service in the Air Force in Viet Nam.

Other events will include a salute to veterans to show how USDA Rural Development and other housing providers work with our service men and woman to provide homeownership opportunities after they have completed their service to our country. Individual announcements on these events will be sent to the media a couple of days prior to the event.
