Mike Johnson

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent Kurt Steinhaus announced this morning that Mike Johnson has been selected as the incoming principal of Los Alamos Middle School.

Johnson comes with a wealth of experience including more than nine years of administration at the secondary level. His latest achievement is the establishment and implementation of the Los Alamos Early College and Career Academy. This program is creating new and innovative opportunities for our students.

Johnson said he is looking forward to his new leadership opportunity at LAMS. His initial focus areas include;

  • Master schedule, staffing, and enrollment;
  • Continuous improvement in operations and classroom management procedures;
  • Professional development for staff; and
  • Developing a plan to better serve all students.

Rex Kilburn

This also is a time to thank and recognize outgoing LAMS Principal Rex Kilburn for 11 successful years in Los Alamos. His last six years were at the LAMS. In serving as principal, Kilburn said he enjoys making connections with families, helping “our fun and amazing” students grow to become young adults, and working with outstanding staff members.

“His memories include being warmly welcomed into the district and now we can say ‘see you later’ with warmth and deep appreciation,” Steinhaus said.

The community is invited to Rex and Dawn Kilburn’s moving to Kiana, Alaska party at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church.
